Why Line Dancing?
Research has shown that rhythmic music and coordinated movements boost confidence, self esteem and cognitive functioning, making it a valuable activity for mental well-being. It's also sociable and fun!
It's a fun way of maintaining orthopaedic health and strengthening muscles.
Also, in studies (Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York) it was found that dancing helped reduce the risk of dementia, by improving brain function and boosting memory - so why not join in?
No special equipment or dress is necessary- definitely no cowboy hats required! But please wear appropriate footwear: some people like dancing in trainers, some in boots, some in dance shoes, but no flip- flops or shoes you can slip out of please, for your own safety.
Welcome to the Absolute Beginners line dancing page
In August, we'll be offering a "Buy One Get One Free" line dance class. Pay to come to your usual class, and stay on for the next class FREE once! This way, you can have a taster of the Improvers class, and hopefully join that in September, confident that you can do it - and you can!
Due to numbers, I'm afraid this now
You should be able to find dance step sheets and /or videos on the CopperKnob or Linedancer websites or the links below. For some of the dances, Jean may choose an alternative track to those in the videos, particularly for older dances.

Line Dancing Floor Etiquette
When dancing, please do NOT:

Walk through dancers. Please wait, or go round the edge of the floor.
Assume that you own a particular place on the dance floor, take a turn at the back and the front.
Chatter while teaching is in progress.
Carry food or drink onto, or across, the dance floor.
When dancing PLEASE:
Turn off mobile phones if you can. If not, please leave the room to answer them.
Be courteous to other dancers, particularly beginners.
Try to stay in lines and take smaller steps if the floor is crowded.
Listen to your body - sit down if you need to rest.
Most of all - ENJOY!
